Barnabas:  A Companion of Paul

A Canaanite belonged to Cyprus named Joses, whom the companion exclaimed Barnabas mentioned in Acts 4:36.

He was nicknamed “Son of Encouragement” or “Son of Exhortation” was perhaps given to him due to his tendency to assist others (Acts 4:36-37, 9:27) and his eagerness to do whatever Church commanders required. (Acts 11:25-30)

Barnabas’ Missionary

In Scripture’s following paragraph, the Holy Spirit exclaims two of the five prophets and instructors of Syrian Antioch to depart on a mission. (Acts 13:1-3)

Barnabas grasps the lead, Saul works side by side with him and John Mark is invited to come along as their companians. 

Their initial stop is the island of Cyprus, where Barnabas matured. (Acts 13:4-5) while they arrived to the Gentile commander in Cyprus, Saul began going by his Greek name, Paul. (Acts 13:9)
